FAQs

Applications

  • Where can acoustic spray ceilings from Acosorb be applied?

You can apply an acoustic spray ceiling from Acosorb on all semi-covered, water-resistant surfaces. It is suitable for ceilings of swimming pools, residential houses, classrooms, commercial buildings and exhibition buildings. Our acoustic spraying and plastering is a particularly good match with steel roofing sheets, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.

  • Is acoustic plaster and spray work also suitable for walls?

We also provide walls with an acoustic Acosorb layer. However, preferably above shoulder height. Acoustically absorbing materials are generally porous and therefore vulnerable. In addition, the ceiling surface is more effective.

  • Are there types of buildings that are not suitable for acoustic spraying and plastering?

We cannot treat surfaces that are directly exposed to the weather, such as building facades, with Acosorb products. In addition, livestock sheds, hospital operating rooms and all walkable surfaces such as floors cannot be treated.

Working Methods and Activities

  • What are the preconditions for treatment with Acosorb?

The surface must be waterproof, the work floor must be free of obstacles, there must be a connection for tap water within 20 meters of the surface to be sprayed and there must be two separate groups with at least 16 amperes.

  • In what order is the work performed?

Connections such as walls must be ready, as must the plasterwork on walls. Before or after mounting cable trays and/or air ducts. Preferably before, first attach the threaded ends, after which spraying, after which the final assembly of installation parts. This creates a high degree of efficiency with minimal risk of damage. In addition, it is possible to work in an existing environment where the installation has already been installed. All parts that are not to be painted are taped off. It is also possible to spray installation parts, but we advise you to keep cable ducts free. This is to keep it good and easily accessible. After applying the acoustically absorbing layer, the painting and floor finish follow. An exception to this are walls provided with plaster, which must be ready for acoustic spraying before the start. Masking off paintwork can lead to damage.

  • Will my building be assessed in advance?

Yes, of course. If you are interested in an acoustic spray ceiling for your own building or for a building that you are designing or building, you can make an appointment with our account manager.

  • What is the lead time of the application?

This differs per project. Normally 60% of the time is spent in the preparation, 20% in the actual spraying process and the last 20% in finishing and cleaning up.

  • What is the drying time of the material?

We cannot give an exact drying time. How long this takes depends on the humidity and temperature. Our materials are completely water-based and the ceiling should dry on a natural basis immediately after application. It is important to properly ventilate treated areas. We can stimulate this process by using fans.

  • Does installing an acoustic spray ceiling cause a lot of nuisance?

The work involved in installing an acoustic ceiling certainly has an impact on the course of business in your company or home. Our acoustic specialists completely tape off the floor and walls that are not sprayed.

  • Is a lot of waste produced during the work?

That differs per project. Take into account approximately 1 m3 of waste per 100 m2 of surface to be sprayed.

  • Within what time frame can the work be scheduled?

This is usually possible within a period of four weeks. Please contact us for an exact schedule.

Color and structure

  • In how many structures is the Acosorb acoustic spray ceiling available?

Acosorb is available in six different textures, from smooth to coarse-grained.

  • Does the chosen structure influence the sound absorption?

Several factors influence the degree of sound absorption. The structure has a small influence on this. Factors such as the density and thickness of the Acosorb layer to be applied are decisive for this.

  • How thick should the acoustic spraying be applied?

Depending on the desired sound absorption, we coordinate the thickness with you. The thicker the layer, the more absorption. In general, we don't need to apply it thicker than 25mm, because that's how the maximum absorption results are achieved at speech frequencies.

  • In which colors are acoustic spraying and plastering available?

We supply our acoustic products in various standard colors such as Red, Hong Kong Grey, Oman Grey, Ilay Grey, Cool Grey, Black and White. It is also possible to have your own color developed by our specialists. We only apply mass-colored products, so that the background color does not immediately shine through if damaged. This also makes the application more efficient.

Electricity

  • Can electricity and/or air ducts be injected?

    Yes, everything can be injected.

  • Can electrical pipes mounted on the surface to be treated be concealed?

This is possible, provided that the electrical pipes are applied without space on the surface and the spraying to be applied is at least 5 mm thicker than the electrical pipe.

  • Is it possible to build spots in the acoustic spray ceiling?

Yes, this is possible. However, a border must be placed the thickness of the spraying with a diameter away from the spot. This can be provided by Acosorb by means of a specifically developed Acosorb filling ring or by the client.

Maintenance

  • Is an acoustic spray ceiling maintenance-friendly?

An acoustic ceiling is very maintenance-friendly. To clean the ceiling, you can use a vacuum cleaner fitted with a soft-bristled brush. For more information, please refer to our maintenance instructions.

  • Can the acoustic ceiling ever come loose?

Once applied, Acosorb will not peel off or delaminate on its own. Testing done in accordance with ASTM D7234 has shown that the bond strength can support 736x its own weight. By adjusting the glue type, this can even be enlarged up to 4000x. This means that the risk of it coming loose is very small.

  • Is it possible to conclude a maintenance contract?

This is possible. During maintenance, the ceiling is inspected and, if necessary, a treatment is carried out.

Costs

  • What does the delivery and installation of the acoustic material cost?

The cost of installing acoustic material depends on its thickness, quantity, color and other factors. Because every project is tailor-made, the costs differ per situation.
